About Arwyn

Arwyn was born in 1947 and is resident in Chesterfield, north Derbyshire. He was educated at ChesterfieldGrammar School, then at Newland Park College of Education in Buckinghamshire. A former schoolteacher, he is now pursuing his passion for art full-time.

Adventurous Art

Arwyn has been an enthusiastic artist all his life. He began showing work at the British Watercolour Society and The Great Sheffield Art Show as well as at local venues run by Chesterfield Art Club. He has also exhibited at the Manhattan Gallery, Nottingham, The Style Lab at Harleys Interiors and Elk Designs in Chesterfield.

Specialties: architectural scenes
He has long been fascinated by buildings, especially those in a rural setting. He has produced many striking and individual rural scenes of cottages and barns; many of his private commissions have been of this nature.

Specialties: Peak landscapes

Arwyn enjoys capturing the colour, form and sense of spaciousness evoked by the beautiful countryside of the Derbyshire Peak District. Never a prisoner of technique, he seeks to use colour to reinforce the immediacy of those first impressions that hold our gaze. By accentuating the natural forms of nature – particularly those elements caught in a play of light – he recreates scenes with a heightened sense of depth.

Versatility in style and media
Always ready to experiment, Arwyn can provide works of art in a wide variety of styles, both representational and abstract. He is particularly interested in using abstract forms as a means of portraying the raw forces behind a scene. The majority of his works are acrylics but he also works with oils watercolours and pastels, and can provide pencil and charcoal drawings.

Personal commissions
Arwyn is always happy to consider personal requests, including house portraits, pet portraits, still lifes and landscapes. He can offer very reasonable rates, depending on the size and nature of the commission.
